Emerging glass artist Wang Qin opens his first solo exhibition, "Glass Serendipity", at twocities this Saturday. Reception from 4 to 6 pm.
Why did you start working with this medium?
Glass is such a mysterious language and it contains tremendous possibilities, especially when it's being fired in the kiln. There is a zen-like, natural beauty to glass that arouses my desire for creation.
What inspires you in your work?
My creation usually comes from instinct, a sudden inspiration and occasion. I like to follow that.
What techniques do you use? Are there new techniques you are working with?
Currently, I use casting. When glass is in the kiln, there are opportunities for the unexpected, for new concepts and effects to be discovered. This way of creation is like an unknown exploration, providing unlimited possibilities and diminshing manmade marks. Technique is not rigid, and I am able to explore more with material and skills, creating language and method to express my feelings and thoughts.

玻璃是一种神秘的语言，有着无穷的可能性，尤其在高温熔炉的刹那，充满了禅意，有着天然的意趣。这种材料特性激发着我的创作欲望。
你的创作灵感源于何方？
我的创作更多的依靠直觉，灵感的获得往往在蓦然之间，是一种偶然，我喜欢这种人随天意的感觉。
在作品创作中，你通常使用哪些技法？有没有采用一些新技术来创作？
我目前的玻璃艺术创作主要采用铸造工艺。玻璃在高温熔炉时，我不断增强“偶然”的干涉性，这样能促成某种预料不到的现象出现，以引起新的观念，指导新的研究方向。这种创作方式就犹如一次无法预知的探险，提供了无限的可能性，能最大程度的去掉人为因素，排除非本质的痕迹。技术不是僵化的，我将进一步挖掘材料及工艺，创造出更新的表达语言和方法手段，以适应表达新感觉、新想法的需要。
